FloorVision completed a full aged care flooring renovation at Carinya of Bicton in Perth.

Project Summary

Carinya of Bicton in Perth presented significant technical challenges due to decades of renovations and widespread moisture issues throughout the facility. Existing bathroom tiles were deteriorated, floor levels varied significantly between rooms, and falls to waste were unsafe for residents.

FloorVision completed extensive floor & wall preparation works across approximately 1100m² of space. Working closely with Mapei technical specialists, a project-specific moisture remediation and substrate preparation system was developed to protect the new commercial vinyl and wall installations.

Bathroom areas required full preparation over existing ceramics, including diamond grinding, void repairs, vapour barriers, engineered falls to waste and complete waterproofing systems. Gerflor full-height wall and floor vinyl was then installed to create sealed, compliant healthcare bathrooms with safe gradients.

In the main thoroughfare areas, significant bulk fill levelling compounds were used to correct floor inconsistencies, and concrete transition ramps were installed at all height changes to ensure safe resident movement.

The project was completed with coved commercial vinyl to service areas and Interface carpet tiles to the main spaces. Delivering a durable and compliant commercial flooring solution for the aged care facility.​

Technical Floor & Wall Preparation System

Due to significant moisture issues and deteriorated substrates, a project specific remediation system was developed in consultation with Mapei technical representatives.

Substrate Preparation

  • Removal of loose ceramic tiles

  • Diamond grinding of existing tiled surfaces

  • Identification and repair of large voids using Nivorapid with added sand

  • Full surface cleaning prior to system application​​
